Hillside-Jamaica Avenue Bridges
Jamaica, New York
The project consists of widening the existing roadway and reconstructing the two bridges. The original contract duration is for twenty months. This project was unique in that the existing bridge was maintained for traffic flow while building the new bridge right next to it. After the new bridge was completed, a weekend was assigned to close down lanes so that the new bridge could take the place of the existing bridge, tying the two bridges (the new and the existing) together, and then hydraulically moving them until the new bridge was now standing in the place of the old bridge. Once everything was in-line, the existing bridge was demolished.
Lovett Silverman was retained on this project to prepare a Baseline CPM construction schedule, maintain monthly CPM updates and evaluate progress impacts for time extension requests. Additionally, monthly updates are performed and attendance at schedule meetings has been required.
